A1- Powered parachutes are a very safe way of fun

flying in fact probably the safest"


Q2 Can I land safely if the engine stops?


A2 Certainly and is taught during training.


Q3 What happens if my canopy rips?


A3 No problem, your canopy is made from "rip stop"

nylon which prevents the tear from spreading.


Q4 How many deaths have been attributed to

Powered parachutes in Australia?


A4 Some minor accidents to date but no deaths.


Q5 Can l fly anytime?


A5 During daylight hours and anytime the wind is

under 15 Knots.


Q6 Will it get very cold in a Powered parachute?


A6 Yes it can be cold so warm clothing. A flight suit is

supplied during winter.


Q7 Do I need a helmet?


A7 For your safety we always wear a helmet.


Q8 You mentioned some accidents in Powered Parachutes, what is the common cause?

A8 incidents or accidents are usually caused when parachutes land in a high wind or take off in a cross wind.

Q11 lf I want to learn to fly a Powered Parachute, how many hours do I need?


A11 lf you have no flying qualifications, the minimum training is 20 hours. Converting from other aircraft types will require a minimum of 5 hours.

Q13 How much is the cost of a Powered parachute?

Q14 Is the Powered parachute an aircraft, ultralight or an Aircraft?


A14 A Powered parachute is registered with Recreation Aviation Australia under Group (D). It is not a plane, it is a light aircraft.


Q15 How fast will they fly?


A15 Up to around 75KM/h.


Q16 How high can I fly one?


A16 The legal height is 5000ft (1524metres)

Q17 Can I fly over a town?


A17 Yes, provided you are at a minimum height of 1000ft or best glide ratio.


Q18 How far can I fly?


A18 This will depend on the fuel capacity of the Powered parachute. An Aerochute can fly safely 100km.


Q19 Where do you do the trial flights?


A19 Trial flights are usually from various locations in the Hawkesbury weekends only, weather permitting and at the Cowra training facility.


Q20 Is training also at Richmond?


A20 No, due to noise most of the training is carried out at a training course at Cowra NSW; please contact Graeme for more details.


Q21 Are there any age restrictions?


A2I No, as long as you can fit in the harness and helmet you are fine, so far the youngest has been six and the oldest ninety two years of age.


Q22 Are there any medical requirements to learn to fly?


A22 As long as you meet the medical requirements to fly? hold a drivers licence you can learn to fly.


Q23 ls my flight with a qualified person?


A23 Most certainly, only a qualified Pilot instructor may conduct your flight, the HPPC has four qualified instructors.
